“La mejor defensa es un buen ataque”

Tras tener ya dos entradas sobre “bing” y cómo microsoft está entrando en el negocio de los buscadores online, me he topado con una noticia que, para ser sinceros, no me esperaba: Google tratará de competir en el terreno de los sistemas operativos con Chrome OS, a partir de 2010.
Es que, como os comenté anteriormente, vamos a ser testigos de un duelo de titanes, digno de presentarse como caso de estudio de cualquier escuela de negocio: “Dos generadores de cash con muchas ganas de invertir su dinero en diversificar su negocio”.
Las posibilidades son infinitas, y desde el punto de vista de usuario, vamos a observar mejoras bastante importantes, ya que tendremos 3 sistemas operativos comerciales distintos luchando con mucho dinero y buscando mejoras para diferenciarse el uno del otro, lo que se traduce en bajada en los precios, mayores prestaciones de software y poder de decisión para el consumidor, que a partir de 2010, podrá elegir si instalar Windows, Mac o Chrome OS.
Queda por ver si Google puede llegar a una cuota importante en un mercado completamente dominado por Windows. La clave para el éxito de Google será el ser capaz de lograr acuerdos con fabricantes como Hewlett-Packard y Dell, que ofrecen actualmente Windows en la mayoría de sus líneas de productos, pero en una batalla como está será sólo cuestión de tiempo.
Y no es la primera vez que google se enfrenta directamente con microsoft, tenemos el caso del Chrome vs. Internet explorer, que por mucho que ha tratado google no ha logrado entrar con fuerza y todavía están de cuarto lugar en los navegadores usados en internet.
Habrá que ver el final de esta guerra ya declarada, y no queda más que decir, sólo desearles “que gane el mejor”.

Definitivamente Google lanzará su sistema operativo en breve tiempo. Ya se venía especulando mucho sobre si era el Android o el propio Chrome, y como dices esta guerra ya está declarada. Además, con la entrada de google los sistemas opertivos ya no serán como los vemos ahora sino que evolucionarán con la llamada Nube “Cloud Computing”. Supongo que el Chrome OS recogerá lo mejor del actual Andorid en base a Linux (Android estab pensado para funcionar en ordenadores ultraligeros). Pero a los tres “players” que mencionas : Mac, Windows o Chrome habría que añadirle y cuarto actor que también pudiera tomar relevancia : Linux (distribuciones de código abierto).
La idea de los principales impulsores de código abierto (distribucione Linux), es unirse para competir contra Windows (principalemente) con una única alternativa y no tantas como exiten actualmente.
En un determinado momento incluso consideraron que las tres distribucione smas populares o con mayor futuro : Ubuntu, Mobline (intel) y Andorid (google) pudieran unirse … pero como está claro, Google dará la guerra por su lado…. por lo que el resto de distribuciones Linux ya han anunciado que se unen en torno a Moblin (Intel / Novell) y ya están empezando a hacer acuerdo con los fabricantes d eordenadores (portátiles/ligeros ).
Al final, como indicas, mayor competencia debería traer maores beneficios para los usuarios.

Ya desde hace tiempo circula la noticia de que google usa una variante de Ubuntu para uso interno. También hay una distribución gOS http://www.thinkgos.com que integra los servicios de google de forma predeterminada y a lo que me imagino que se parecerá la nueva distribución de google. Que no olvidemos que no es un nuevo sistema operativo sino una distribución de Linux, de las que hay unas pocas que se pueden ver en http://distrowatch.com
